Goals of the organizations:
• Increase the profile of southern African schools with the IB
• Promote IB in the region
• Develop communication: one key person at a school who is the key person the head point
• Facilitate sister schools i.e. CAS from 3 school; TOK kids from different school having a debate
• Create more informal training opportunities
• Facilitate formal training with IB for new DP subjects i.e. Language A & B
• Continue to facilitate college entrance for DP students in SA
• Network with heads of other regional agencies
These goals need to be read concurrently with the Preliminary Constitution.
Recommend:
• Rotate the chair around different school.
• Organize problem sharing sessions by running a protocol at the next IBASA conference
• Create opportunities for school coordinators to sit and talk
• Create opportunities for people to share current training/expertise
• Provide training of pertinent subjects (i.e. Language A & B with the new syllabus)
• Make the IBASA conference cost effective
• Make the IBASA conference bigger and better; more teachers; provides more leverage for sending trainers
• AISJ willing to host next year.
• Ask local teacher to host visiting teachers
Action:
• American International School of Lusaka (AISL) was voted in as the chair for the next year, March 2010 – March 2011.
• John to write up positives from this conference and send out to the schools.
• John to write the conference and send out to schools involved.
• John to send out provisional constitution.
• Each school to appoint one contact person for their school and send this information to AIS Lusaka.
• AISL to send photo/ article to IB World/TIE.
• AISL to look into creating webpage/Blogs/Wikis
• AISL to continue newsletter after John sends out the conference write up.
• AISL to set up a database of trainers in the area.
• AISL to talk to IB about Language training A & B.
